Holiday Story: Play on RHOSLC* Franchise Centered at Chez Flamant
Category Is: Snowflake Realness
In Nov of 2021, a new franchise of one of Jaelynn’s favorite shows started: the Real Housewives of [insert place here]. This particular franchise just happened to be set in—you guessed it—Salt Lake City.
While I have not been particularly interested in the Real Housewives’ franchises before, the idea of a show in SLC was intriguing. These women were potentially our celebrities filmed in our home in places we go to.
Thus started a shared commitment, by us, to reality TV filmed in our state: The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.
Key Structural Elements
There are a couple of key elements to the housewives’ show structure. Each housewife has the following:
- A tag line
- Talking head interviews cut between on-screen action
- Outrageous and controversial glam styling
It took some brainstorming, but we identified our taglines. Since we have named our abode Chez Flamant (House Flamingo), we had an easy franchise name as well.
That just left the outrageous glam styling.
Glam Styling
When it came to the styling, we really focused our visuals around a sort of snow queen aesthetic. We vacillated between candy cane red and white or a more turquoise blue and silver tinged snow-flake inspiration for our makeup. (Red is difficult to do right—so turquoise silver it was!)
I ordered a couple white hair wigs and decided I was going to style them—HAH. Thank goodness for pins and the fact that this was a photoshoot. The hair hardly stayed in place. But IT WAS A START. Wig styling is not something I spend a lot of time on in my studies or work.
A Note on Makeup
There are a lottttt of different makeup brands in our collections. I have my standbys, which I rely on:
- Powder foundation (mineral—can’t remember where I got it)
- Transparent powder for general makeup setting, Ben Nye
- Ben Nye highlight palette with glittered colors of all kinds
- Pat McGrath eyeliner, mascara, and eye shade palettes
- MAC lipsticks
Then we just had some standard rhinestones glued on with eyelash glue.
Sub-Themes
We did have a couple sub-themes running through the story: Nutcrackers and gingerbread houses. Obvi the gingerbread houses represented the “house” aspect of the “housewives” story and the small nutcrackers were actually a call out to my 2021 holiday decorating theme: nutcrackers.
So there we are, two housewives, glamorous, based in Salt Lake City, and vulnerable—not too shabby.
